Tod and Lisa’s Year of Adventure

Life on the Road to Central America

Why July 5, 2007

Why?

Why take a year off?

Why pack up your house?

Why rent out your electric car?

Why sublease the office?

Why take a sabbatical?

………………………………………………because life is short no matter how you slice it, no matter what your beliefs are and no matter how much you love your work.

……………………………………………… because when we’re 60 we want to look back at our lives and know we took risks and lived fully even when it wasn’t convenient.

…………………………………………….. because we felt like the treadmill was running and each day was simply a slightly altered version of the day before.

……………………………………………. because life likes to get mixed up, tossed into the air, and the space when everything slows down and it’s simply hanging there – not going up and not going down – is a time of tremendous opportunity….the view really is better up there.

………………………………………….. because we have ideas about who we are and how we want to live life and we won’t know if we really mean it, if they’re true, unless we try them on and see if they fit.

………………………………………… because people everywhere are radically similar underneath the clothing of different religions and races and countries. We all want love, health, safety and purpose.

…………………………………….. because we’re all world citizens.

……………………………………….. because life simply wants to live through each of us…

For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are those “It might have been”.
